Lordy Rodriguez’s Seattle reimagines the city’s landscape by stripping away its known history and urbanizing it under alternative influences: Indigenous, immigrant, and colonizer perspectives. Inspired by Louise Bennett-Coverley’s poem “Colonization in Reverse,” he questions who shapes a city’s identity by introducing new city centers and various degrees of urbanization—or even its absence. His Seattle envisions development as a conversation between these perspectives, where power shifts and cultural influences blend to redefine place and purpose.

We acknowledge that the city of Seattle and its green spaces are situated on the traditional Coast Salish territory, specifically the ancestral lands of the Duwamish, Suquamish, Stillaguamish, and Muckleshoot Peoples. We recognize the stewardship of Seattle’s green spaces by the Coast Salish people since time immemorial, the disruption of this work by colonization, and now endeavor to continue this work.
