
Aaliyah Gupta
ARTIST IN RESIDENT

Born and raised in Kolkata, India, Aaliyah comes from a long line of spirited, rule-breaking women who pursued their passions despite the odds. Aaliyah engages with notions of place and absence, memory and history, borders and belonging. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, lived in New York and Copenhagen and is now firmly rooted in Seattle and part of the Equinox Studios community. Aaliyah has received residency fellowships from Wiillapa Bay AiR, Ucross Foundation and Vermont Studio Center. Selected exhibition locations include Den Frie, Copenhagen, DK; EKS-Rummet, Copenhagen, DK; Site: Brooklyn Gallery; Brand Art Center; Bellevue Art Museum; Museum of History and Industry; Center on Contemporary Art; Redline; Wheaton College; Jacksonville State University; Queens Museum of Art; Stony Brook University; Core Gallery; ARTS at King Street Station. She has created site specific installations for Meta Seattle as well as Storefronts Seattle. Aaliyah received an MFA in painting from Stony Brook University, NY. In addition to her studio practice, Aaliyah is actively involved in advocating for immigrant rights and was the founding executive director of Chaya, an organization serving South Asian survivors of domestic violence.
